Tribal Object 

This Tribal Object represents the indigenous art of the Pacific Northwest Coast of the Americas. The symbols depicted on many objects of this type remind a group of its birthplace, lineage, and national connections. The animal riding on the back of the figure represents a tribal totem (sacred animal of a particular tribal group) and is to be regarded as a protective spirit. (KS)
