Yanique Norman

Yanique Norman (b. 1981) is a Jamaican American artist known for her powerful paintings and multimedia works that explored themes of identity, migration, and social justice. Born in Jamaica, Norman immigrated to the United States at the age of 12, eventually settling in New York City. Norman’s artistic practice was deeply rooted in her  experiences as a Jamaican American woman, and her work often incorporated  elements of Caribbean culture, including textiles, patterns, and vibrant colors. Her paintings and multimedia pieces addressed issues of race, gender, and displacement, drawing on her own personal narratives and the broader social and political landscape. In addition to her painting and multimedia work, Norman is also an accomplished educator and mentor, teaching at several colleges and universities. She is deeply committed to supporting and nurturing the next generation of artists, particularly those from underrepresented communities.  (HT)
