Hammonds House Museum continues its 35th anniversary exhibition series with the opening of Histories and Others, by award winning Haitian artist Edouard Duval Carrié on Friday, July 14, 2023 at 6:30 PM. Histories and Others examines various periods in Duval-Carrié’s career and provides a broad view of his interest in pursuing and making sense of Haiti through the lens of history, religion and politics. Widely considered one of the most important contemporary Haitian artists, Duval-Carrié creates works that speak to the complexities of the Caribbean and its diaspora. He encourages the viewer to rethink the Western Canon, to consider how Africa has shaped the Americas, and how the Caribbean has shaped the modern world.
