Hammonds House Honors 2019 Nomination Form

On September 19, 2020 Hammonds House will present Hammonds House Honors, a recognition of excellence in Black visual art. In our second year we honor nine individuals who advance the visual art of the African Diaspora through their passion, creativity and commitment to artistic and cultural excellence. We will also remember master printmaker Bob Blackburn on the 100th Anniversary of his birth.

Eligibility
Artists, curators, arts administrators, organizations, and scholars whose careers have made a substantial impact on black visual art may be nominated. Nominees must be actively engaged in the field. Nominees must reside in the Southern United States.

Awards
The Nominating Committee will submit nominations for seven of the nine awards. Two awards will be chosen by an internal committee. The awards are as follows. An asterisk indicates awards nominated by the committee.

Process
1. An eight-person nominating committee comprised of curators, academics and visual arts professionals will submit nominations via an online process.
2. Nominated artists are contacted and informed that they have been nominated and are asked to provide support documentation (work samples, artist statements, bios, etc.)
3. A selection panel convenes to review the nominations and support materials and submits their votes.
4. Submitted ballots are tallied by Hammonds House Museum staff to ensure the identity of the nominees and winners remain secret until the evening of the Honors event.

Instructions for Nominators
Thank you for accepting our invitation to nominate 7 individuals who exemplify excellence in African American visual culture. We are confident that you will nominate individuals who are deserving of recognition and who advance the field through their work. Artists for consideration may work in any of the following mediums: drawing, printing, installation, painting, photography, digital art, sculpture, sound art, video, mixed media and decorative art (textiles and material, glass, wood, metal, ceramics, mosaic, paper or other techniques). Please make sure you provide contact information for your nominee.
